This study investigates the performance of a transparent PV coupled with a V-trough direct absorption solar collector (DASC). The V-trough concentrator was installed on the upper transparent surface of DASC, while the transparent PV was mounted aton the top surface of the V-trough concentrator. A nanofluid, composed of Therminol VP-1® base fluid and Aluminum nanoparticles, was utilized to enhance the thermal performance of the thermal fluid. A high bandgap transparent PV was considered to absorb and convert the UV segment of the solar irradiance into electricity, while transmitting the visible and IR radiation to be directly absorbed by the nanofluid flowing inside the DASC. COMSOL Multiphysics software was employed to model and design this system. The Geometrical Optics interface was used to model the system optically by tracing the paths of rays entering the system to optimize the V-trough geometry, as well as to find the effective concentration ratio of the system.
