I decided to research and focus in on Net Neutrality. Net Neutrality is described as the concept that all data on the internet should be treated equally by corporations like internet providers and governments, regardless of content, user, platform, or device (Kenton, 2019). I personally side with the idea that Net Neutrality regulations are unnecessary because the internet has been thriving without them. On the other side of the argument, people who are for Net Neutrality regulations claim that they can help preserve free speech on the internet, protect consumers by preventing ISPs from speeding, slowing, or charging higher fees, as well as promoting competition by giving new companies a level playing field (Procon.org, 2018). As I stated before, if Net Neutrality regulations were put in place, it would help new or small companies have an even chance on the internet . I still think it is pretty unnecessary because the businesses that are thriving have done the work to get where they are. I want to be an educator, so keeping these regulations away would provide future students with a more open internet without burdensome regulations used to govern the internet.
