In War Photographer, we see the power that the conflict shown in the photographs has over the photographer. This is evident when the poem talks about a “half-formed ghost”ghost.” The use of the metaphor “half-formed ghost” suggests that the memory of a person is haunting him,; it’s “half-formed” because itsit’s a memory, not an actual ghost, that’s haunting him, becausesince ghosts aren’t proven to be real; the memory is strong which makes, making him believe that an actual ghost is haunting him when it’s not. This implies that photographs have such power emotionally and physically over the photographer that he feels a ghost of the person he took photos of is haunting him. This shows that he was calm at the time of taking the photograph, but now he’s struggling emotionally; he feels weak sitting in the darkroom waiting for the photos to show up. One by one, the photos start to show, and the memories are flowing back rapidly which is, also causing him to “tremble” involuntarily as well as being haunted by the people he took photos of. This suggests that small objects, even like a photophotos, have such power over a person. It also implies that conflict and war can break down the strongest and seemingly most controlled people, even. Even if they’re not involved in it, the photographer suffersthese events, photographers suffer emotionally.
