The movie points out important difficulties women deal with in our society - chauvinism, harassment, sexual assault, no limits respect, being treated like an object, not a human, etc. Although, more than 28 years have passed between the movie’s release date and today, unfortunately, it is still updated when it comes to the problems women face every day.
Although I really like the critique the movie makes to the society, I do not think the character Thelma is realistic. Being naive is fine, but sometimes she acted almost as if she had brain issues. First, when she left all the money in a visible place in her bedroom alone with a confessed robber. Then, when she actually told him her plan of running away to Mexico. This stupid behavior does not suit a character who was coldly capable of pointing a gun toat a police officer, genially asking her friend to shotshoot his police radio and putting him in his car truck – having a complete control of the situation. Besides that, Thelma & Louise is a great movie with some comedy, adventure, and drama.
