At the end of this short hallway. There, there was a door. I felt for the handle and yanked it open. I heard a scream. I heard crying? Two small voices began too cry loudyloudly, and theretheir cries turned to terror, undoubtedly because they heardhad felt the heat endand smelled the burning of the smoke. I think all I said was, "Shhh… I'm going to get you out of here." I then took off the overcoat meI had been given and wrapped the two together in it. I picked them both up and ran,. I runran without trying to feel my way cautiously. I am feeling the searing heat on my body. It felt like I was getting twotoo close to the fire and having to pull away - onlyexcept I could'ntcouldn't pull away. I could only feel pain. My lungs burendburned. I don't even know if my eyes were open. As I ran, I could feel it getgetting hotter and hotter, scorching everything. Bolting up the staresstairs, I barreled into someone and fluflew out the door. The five of us - myselfI, the two childschildren, and the firefighter I had bowled over - landed sprawled onout on the ground outside the door. We were immediately set upontaken care of by emergency workers. I was wrapped in some sortasort of special blanket and was given Oxygenoxygen. I turned my head and saw the two children being carried into an ambulenceambulance. Turning my head back up, I could see the smoke and the faces crowded over me.
