My inspiration to teach Mathsmath to young people stems back from my brilliant childhood GCSE mathematics teacher. His encouragement and respect ignited my passion for all things having to do with mathematics. It’s theseThese are the qualities I want to pass on to students in my teaching to help inspire a student’smy students' belief in their own abilities. UndertakingHaving undertaken three school placements has highlightedallowed me to merecognize that it is the 11+ age range thatstudents whom I am most passionate about teaching. I feel as though I have a lot to offer young people to help inspire a student’s beliefboost their confidence in their own mathematical abilities.
During my time at Woodcote high schoolHigh School, I was able to observe a range of Key Stage 3 & 4 classes and a variety of teaching methods and styles. I saw how teachers would often tailor their teaching approach and differentiate the content of the lessonlessons and assignments based on a student’s individual ability level. This created an inclusive teaching environment, allowing for each student to be challenged beyond theirhis or her comfort zone without them becoming frustrated or demotivated because of being overstretched. DemonstratingThis demonstrated to me how students learn and develop at different rates, and learn best when they are challenged relative to their personal current level of understanding. I further observed the care put inthat was respectfully given to ensuringensure that the learning objectives of theeach lesson were made clear to each individual student. Effective learning objectives established clear expectations of the class, giving the lessonstudents a sense of direction and encouraging self-reflection amongst students. I saw how many teachers would design a finial plenary session referencing back to the original objectives to review learning and ascertain studentsstudents' understanding. Highlighting, which highlighted to me the importance of targeted, specific lesson objectives.
