The Tuskegee Airmen had aan impressive combat record during the War. In total, 992 pilots graduated and flew aircraft in more than 1,578 war missions. In addition, the men destroydestroyed 261 Enemy Aircraft,enemy aircraft and waswere awarded 850 medals. The group areis one of the most deckerateddecorated units of the U.S. Army. Some pilots flew as many as 100 missions-missions -- more than they were supposed to fly-fly -- because reinforcements for the all black unit waswere scarce.
