APP0 assessment:
So let’s talk about what is the INSA is. The INSA is the national institute of applied sciences. The INSA Toulouse, as the name says it, is located in the scientific academic hub of Toulouse. It is a category B engineering institute, so it is a very good high school. We visited the INSA Toulouse in the frame of the close partnership between the CPES and the INSA Toulouse. So, weand taooke part in the APP0. The APP0 is a collaborative project between CPES students and the INSA Toulouse. The goal of the APP0 was to learn by collective experimentation. It also permits those who hadve never practiced a project before to discover what a project is really is. Once organized into different groups, we achieved a project, which was to build a glider. We fought to be the group wthichat wioulld build the fastest and the most long-rangeding glider. We sawill see how our group successfully created a glider, which has respected all the frequlfillrements, and what were our feelings were about this collaborative project.
In our group, wthere were six people. BecauAse ofur grourp had a large number, we decided to designate a leader to ensure that the group wilould work. We also designated a coordinator, a master of time, and eventually, we assigned to each one a piece of work for each one to do. In the first place, on Wednesday afternoon, we had to build a glider which wioulld be launched by the hand. This first plane was all made of polystyrene, paper clips, and some coins to balance it. We used all of weverythating we were free to dispose of. We chose to build a glider with large wings and tails ailerons, like ones we canould fouind in toy stores. HiIts large stail wilould permits a great lift. As soon as we finished, it we flew it, and it gave us great results: it reachesd five meters. In the second place, - Thursday full day, the glider- we had to build wa glilder that would have to take off with a launcher twhatich we will haved to build ourselves, and will had to reach a table based at seven meters fuarther away. This time, we had a big piece of polyustyrethane, elastic bands and some pins. We chose to build our new glider in the same shape thans the former one, and with the same material. The launcher, as for him, was all composed of polyustyrethane. When our system gotwas finished, the glider doesidn’'t take off because the ofutline hiwas too large outline, and his too lightweight and had a bad streamlined shape, whoich caouldn’'t afford big accelerations. In the third and last place, - Friday full day, - we had the same objective, namely to reach seven meters, so we finally opted for a delta-glider, because this shape canould afford higher accelerations because of better aerodynamics, but wilould have a lower lift. To weight down the glider down, we chose to build hits body in polyustyrethane. We also upgraded the launcher. When it was time to fly ight him, we pulled strongly, if strongly on the elastic band, so that the glider exceeded the seven meters to get outside by the window. It was a great success. Eventually, each group did an oral presentation of what they had created during theose three days.
So the feedback I have on this project is that it brings us a lot, because we could really saw withee what kinds of situations and difficulties an engineer can be faced with. We also discovered what a collective work is really is, and what it involves.
