In Shakespeare's Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth's roles switch throughout the play. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth is seen as loyal to King Duncan and has a moral conscience, while Lady Macbeth does not. Lady Macbeth is very ambitious and manipulative, which drives her to convince Macbeth to kill King Duncan so that they both can become king and queen. Throughout the play, though, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth start to switch roles and slowly take on each other's personalities. Macbeth becomes selfish and now stops at nothing to remain king. Lady Macbeth begins to feel guilty about Macbeth's murders and develops a conscience. Throughout Shakespeare's Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth switch personalities from the beginning of the play when Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth to kill King Duncan and in the middle of the play when Lady Macbeth tries to convince Macbeth not to kill Banquo.
